People in democracy have power

In Michelle Goldberg’s September 1st NY Times articles, Opinion | How The Texas Abortion Law is Turning Activists Into Enforcers – The New York Times (nytimes.com), she talks about the latest abortion restriction legislation from Texas.  That legislation nearly reduces abortion to an impossibility.  Yet, a majority of people in the United States prefer to have abortion available to women unable or unwilling to carry a child to term.  This means that a minority of Republicans have been able to enforce a near fatal blow on the ability of a woman to have an abortion, thereby eliminating a woman’s rights to have an abortion.  This suggests that we have failed at teaching democracy much less even bothering to practice it.  A people who are practicing democracy would never allow a minority to rule. A people’s majority with the power of democracy would counteract this kind of legislation.
